Living life to the fullest.

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words: Dear God,Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, MeredithWe put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find. I am wherever there is love. Love, God Don’t say you’re too busy to reblog this.

Today, everywhere we go all we see is half naked Victoria Secret models or Abercrombie models with their shirts off or advertisements for sex stores. Sex sells. And it is destroying the people in this world’s views on the most sensual and bonding experiences given as a gift from God for man and wife.

One of the biggest questions that I have struggled with for years was, “When I get into a relationship with a boy am I going to have the strength to tell him my boundaries and actually enforce them?” I have never been put in a situation like this to find out my answer. I wish the Bible gave bullet notes on what is and isn’t okay to do with a boy before marriage, but it doesn’t. I feel like so many girl and boys struggle with that question. And since we don’t have the answer, I believe we just have to listen to our hearts and see what you feel is right and wrong. Maybe that feeling IS God laying the outline for our relationships.

When I was reflecting over my life today, I realized that God has brought me to the middle of the desert where I have met some amazing people who really are his sons and daughters. I have been spending a few weeks with my friends from Campus Crusades and I’ve been watching how they act around each other as friends and in relationships. It has made me realize that I have been asking the wrong thing all of my life. I should have been saying, “I cannot wait to meet the man who has the same beliefs as me and we won’t even have to discuss boundaries because God has sent me a man who loves Him wholeheartedly and doesn’t want to ruin the night when he is finally united with his wife for the first time.” Until I moved here I had never met a guy who had values. It seemed to me like every guy, no matter if he was the biggest Christian or not was going to have “sex” which is a different definition for everyone. In my heart I believe that “sex” is intercourse, oral, and anything more than kissing. Now, ask in your heart what do you think God feels is right and wrong? Listen closely because I’m sure that if you really want to know that he will answer your question.

This whole experience of moving across the country to a place where I did not know a person has shaped and formed me into a better friend, Christian, daughter, sister, niece and person. I cannot wait for the challenges and adventures that God is going to take me through for the next 4 years because I know that I will always have friends who love God as I do and will be there to pray for me and comfort me. And for this, I will always be thankful.
